The Soprintendenza per il Patrimonio Storico Artistico ed Etnoantropologico (Commission for the Historic, Artistic and Ethno-Anthropological Heritage) of Siena and Grosseto is a peripheral organ of the Ministry, which delegates to it activities for the protection, conservation and valorisation of moveable property of historic and artistic interest (collections, paintings, furnishings etc.) in the territory of competence. This includes mural paintings and decorative accoutrements belonging to the State, the Regions and other territorial public bodies, as well as any other public body and institution, including those belonging to non-profit private legal entities.
Within the ambit of the competencies laid down in the Codice dei Beni Culturali (Cultural Heritage Code), the Soprintendenza performs activities of control and vigilance over the private cultural heritage and deals with the approval of the related restoration projects. The Soprintendenza also prepares restoration and valorisation projects and initiatives with funding from the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali (Ministry of Culture) for State-owned and public assets (belonging to legally recognised bodies and institutions). It is organised in the form of different services and offices for the various sectors of competence.
Illustrated below are some of the activities of the Soprintendenza, the objective being to provide the public with a tool for accessing the procedures and services that it offers. The aim is to improve the relations between users and the authorities, in an awareness of the complexity of the arguments and the need to refer to a broad regulatory framework in order to understand them fully.
